Where 140 × 60 pixels comes from
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) publishes scanning guidelines with each recruitment, and they ask for a signature of 140 × 60 pixels (preferred), 10–20 KB, in JPG or JPEG. The same numbers appear in the guidelines for the 2025 PO/MT recruitment (CRP PO/MT-XV) and in a 2026 Reserve Bank of India recruitment run through the IBPS application system.
The guidelines also warn that the application won't move to the next stage until the photo and signature meet the specifications. Here is the full set from the 2025 PO/MT guidelines:
| Upload | Dimensions | File size |
|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 200 × 230 px (preferred) | 20–50 KB |
| Signature | 140 × 60 px (preferred) | 10–20 KB |
| Left thumb impression | 240 × 240 px at 200 DPI (3 × 3 cm) | 20–50 KB |
| Handwritten declaration | 800 × 400 px at 200 DPI (10 × 5 cm) | 50–100 KB |
All four are JPG or JPEG files. Each recruitment has its own notification, and other banks and bodies set their own sizes, so open the guidelines for the exact exam you're applying to on ibps.in or the recruiter's website.
The rules about the signature itself
Getting the size right is only half of it. The IBPS guidelines also say:
- Sign on white paper with a black ink pen.
- No capital letters. A signature written in capitals is not accepted.
- It must be your own, not signed by anyone else.
- It must match on exam day. If the signature you put on the attendance sheet or call letter at the exam doesn't match the uploaded one, you can be disqualified.
That last rule is the reason to sign naturally rather than invent a neat version for the upload. Sign a few times, pick the one that looks most like your everyday signature, and sign the same way at the exam.
Because the rules ask for pen on paper, use a photo of a real signature for these forms rather than the on-screen Draw option.
Fitting a signature into 140 × 60 pixels
140 × 60 px is tiny: 8,400 pixels in all, and more than twice as wide as it is tall (7:3). The tool crops away the empty paper, then scales the signature until it fits inside the box with a small margin, without stretching it. In practice:
- Long, low signatures fill the box best. A tall or very compact signature is limited by the 60 px height and leaves white space on either side.
- Bold strokes survive the shrink. The signature is scaled down a long way to fit 140 px across, so thin, light lines can turn faint. A black gel pen or a firmer hand gives clearer strokes.
- Use the margin slider. The margin is 6% by default. Lower it to make the signature larger in the box; raise it if strokes touch the edge.
- Try the Black ink option if the strokes look grey after cleanup. It turns every stroke solid black.
The small actual-size preview next to the download button shows how the signature will look on the form.
How the 10–20 KB range is met
A clean 140 × 60 px JPG on a white background is a very small file, typically a few kilobytes, which is below the 10 KB minimum. That's why so many signature uploads fail with a “file too small” message. When the file is under the minimum, the tool adds invisible padding data until it is big enough. The pixels don't change, so the signature looks exactly the same; only the file gets larger.
Portals differ on what a kilobyte is: 1,000 bytes for some, 1,024 for others. The preset covers both. It pads to at least 10 × 1,024 + 64 = 10,304 bytes and keeps the file at no more than 20 × 1,000 = 20,000 bytes, so it sits inside 10–20 KB under either definition. The exact byte count is shown under the preview.
Why signature uploads get rejected
- “File too small” or “minimum 10 KB”: the file is under the minimum. Keep the 10 KB minimum from the preset and download again.
- Wrong dimensions: the file was edited or resized again after download, for example in a gallery app. Upload the downloaded JPG as it is.
- Not a real JPG: renaming signature.png to signature.jpg doesn't convert it. Keep JPG selected in the tool, as it is here by default.
- Sent through a chat app: forwarding a file as a photo recompresses it and can change its size. Send it as a document, or download it again on the device you're applying from.
- Faint or patchy strokes: lower the cleanup strength if thin parts disappear, or raise it if shadows remain.
- Capital letters: not accepted under the IBPS rules. Sign in your usual style.
The rest of your bank exam uploads
The photograph for the same forms is set in pixels too: 200 × 230 px and 20–50 KB in the 2025 PO/MT guidelines. Use the Image Resizer in Pixels mode with crop to fill and a 50 KB limit, or frame it first with head guides in the Passport Photo Maker. The guidelines also label the photo 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm; the 3.5 × 4.5 cm resizer explains how that relates to the pixel size.
Other forms use other signature sizes, such as 3.5 × 1.5 cm or 300 × 80 px. The main Signature Resizer has presets for those and takes any custom size, with the same on-device processing.
